Electronics and Phone manufacturing giant, Sony Mobile Communications, has launched a brand new multi-faceted Android Smartphone, Xperia Z, into the Nigerian mobile market; fuelinga war of sorts for the Nigerian mobile phone market with other high-end smartphone brands in the country.
Xperia Z was first launched in Dubai last month while Nigeria became the second destination for its launch.
According to Sony Mobile Communications Marketing Manager Africa, Younes Cherkaoui; Nigeria now remains “Our focus market because of the potential the country has and we are ready to boost our market share.”
He explained that the new Xperia Z boast of a range of unparalleled features, including a 5″ Full High Definition 1080p Reality Display, Snapdragone S4 Pro quad-core processor, the Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and a 13 megapixel fast-capture camera.
He added that the device, a complete office with integrated features, uses advanced technology from Sony’s entire range of multimedia products.
Cherkaoui stated that the Smartphone, shares capabilities with Sony digital cameras and features Exmor RS for mobile; the world’s first image sensor with HDR video recording for smartphones. It also has a complete office with integrated features that would replace computers because of the sophisticated technology deployed in its manufacturing.
“The Xperia Z is a game-changer in smartphone technology. It has generated a great deal of excitement internationally since its official launch at the CES in Las Vegas. We anticipate the ultimate range of rich user experiences offered on this stellar model from the Xperia range to increase the momentum several times over in key African markets and Nigeria is one of these key markets,” he said.
Xperia Z’s razor sharp Reality Display, powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, brings Sony’s long-standing television expertise to the smartphone and delivers an immersive viewing experience with super brightness and clarity.
“The smartphone shares capabilities with Sony digital cameras and features Exmor PS for mobile, the world’s first image sensor with High Dynamic Range (HDR) video recording for smartphones,” he added.
On the design, Cherkaoui said, “One unique feature of the Smartphone is that it has water resistance as photographs and videos could be taken in water at a distance of one metre below water level. The phone could be in water and still respond to incoming calls. While in one metre deep water, the phone could still ring out and its user could still receive calls with Bluetooth device while the phone is still in water. It has powerful camera that could take bright pictures in the dark, without applying the flash mechanism.”
Meanwhile, Director, Business Management and Pricing at Sony, Izzat Kittaneh explained that the Xperia Z includes inbuilt Battery Stamina Mode that that enables its battery to stay longer, with improved standby duration by four times or more by automatically shutting down battery-draining apps whenever the screen is off and restoring them when the screen is on.
