Following the termination of two leases granted to Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has again ordered BASL to refund a debt of 1.97 billion naira ($12.7 million).

In 2007, BASL was contracted as builder and operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport terminal two (MMA2), Lagos under a build, operate and transfer (BOT) concession agreement, while FAAN was responsible for terminal security, fire cover and other services which BASL was to compensate financially

According to Business Day Nigeria, Yakubu Dati, GM Corporate Communication of FAAN, alleged Bi-Courtney breached the agreement.

The report stated Bi-Courtney rebuffed every attempt made by FAAN to recover the huge debt it owed for services rendered by FAAN since September 8, 2007 as stipulated in the concession agreement.

The breakdown of the debt include 45,604,085 naira ($302,000) for aviation security; 36,649,223 naira ($244,000) fire/safety cost; 2,125,065 naira ($12,576)) for marshalling; 252,038,510 naira($1.8 million) for electricity cost; 200,000,000 naira($1.3 million) for maintenance band; 726,900,069 naira ($4.8 million) 5 percent concession fees; 97,200,000 naira($600,000) for REUT (hotel); 9,720,000.00 naira($60,000) for SRC (hotel); 73,860,219 naira for REUT (conference hall); and 7,386,021 naira for SRC (conference hall).

“It is important to state that since Bi-Courtney started operating the BOT terminal on September 8, 2007, it has refused to make its audited account available to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in line with the terms of agreement for that concession, despite several reminder letters,” Dati said.
