Tsotsi last week suspended the CEO of Eskom and three other directors saying he wanted to conduct an unfettered investigation into the under-performance of the state-owned company.
According to City Press, South Africa’s second biggest Sunday English newspaper after the Sunday Times, all members of the board passed a motion of no confidence in Tsotsi on Thursday last week.“All of them want him out,” an unidentified source told City Press. “He has absolutely no understanding of corporate governance.”
Tsotsi is being accused of meddling into the activities of the executive while also signing off some important papers on behalf of Eskom.
According to City Press, Tsotsi was told to walk from the board gathering which reportedly ran into the early hours of Friday morning as debates got heated.
“In his absence, they tabled a vote of no confidence in him. All of them want him out,” the City Press quoted the source as saying.
The board then reportedly decided to have a meeting with public enterprise minister, Lynne Brown, in Cape Town later on Friday.
Brown had a meeting with some of the board members on Friday, it has emerged. However, Brown said the suggestion that Tsotsi had been asked to step down had not been conveyed to her.
