A fortnight ago, Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the country’s national elections had been postponed by six weeks. It said the shift was informed by the need to enable the joint multi-country military action continue its offensive against the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East of the country. However, in an ironic turn of events, the terror group seems to be one championing a further delay. The group released a fresh video yesterday and towards the end of the clip emphasized that will not allow the elections hold.
The 12 minute long video shows the leader of the group saying “This election will not be held even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it,” Shekau said in Hausa language.
This video comes just days after Presidents from Central pledged $87 million to fund the fight against the Islamic group boko haram, and Shekau was also heard in the video calling out these heads of state to drop the fight against him or face reprisal attacks .
