President Condé is likely to call on MEPs to strengthen EU relations with Africa, take stock of his year as President of the African Union (AU) and mention the recent signing of the agreement on the Continental Free Trade Area (ZLEC) and progress on the African Renewable Energy Initiative.

He is also likely to brief MEPs on the political crisis in his country, where tensions have grown since the 4 February municipal elections, the results of which were contested in deadly demonstrations.

Following his address, President Condé and Parliament’s President Antonio Tajani will hold a press point at 12:30 in the protocol area.
